This is my first blog-post. Quite honestly, I’m just trying to figure this whole blogging thing out. Ha! Forgive me, this may not be super professional, but I’ll do my best. I thought I’d just first post what I have written on my “About Me” page. Here ya’ go:

Thank you for visiting Mama’s Musings.

I began Mama’s Musings in January 2017 as a way to share my experience of becoming pregnant, the journey of becoming a mother and why being a Mom is such a miracle and gift for me and my husband. I primarily began this blog mainly to share updates with close friends and family, but realized many people were contacted me to share how they were relating to my life and story.

In this blog, I share my experience overcoming and recovering from HA (Hypothalamic Amenorrhea), PCOS, infertility and under-eating.

My name is Amy Brown and I am a full-time blogger, full-time mom, bakery-owner in process, and freelance writer living in Phoenix, Arizona. I grew up in Denver, Colorado (early years), then the Tri-Cities, Washington (state) before moving to Phoenix after graduating with my Masters in Education. I met my husband (in-person) on New Year’s Day 2015 at Starbucks, but on eHarmony.com a couple days prior (quite the story) in Phoenix. We were married in August of that year and we are happily still married.

Upon graduation, I entered the “real world,” working in jobs in the radio and TV journalism, next as a 4th grade teacher in a private school, a barista for Starbucks, an apartment leasing consultant, then dove into the logistics field working for Amazon.com for 3.5 years, Verizon Wireless, JP Morgan Chase, Aetna then DHL Express. After all that, I finally realized my affinity for both writing and baking.

As for hobbies and recreational pursuits, I consider myself an amateur baker and am known for making addictive cookies, brownies and muffins. My husband has brought them to work and his co-workers proclaim they are “crack cookies” and request them repeatedly. My hope/vision/dream is to someday open up my own bakery (retail store and online). I also love to listen to podcasts, music, listen to audio books, use my pottery wheel and simply spend time with close friends. In high school and college, I was a runner, and have a history with being part of the varsity women’s team who won the state championship senior year. I have run numerous half-marathons and several 5K’s, and 10K’s. Since then, I’ve had seasons of playing tennis, inline-skating, downhill skiing, swimming, and biking. Currently, for the past 3 years, I go hiking regularly in the nearby desert mountains. I love the outdoors and getting out to move my body in a healthy and moderate manner.

After setting a solid foundation with one lovely year of marriage behind us, my husband and I decided we’d try to start a family. Unfortunately, it wasn’t that easy. My periods had been absent for over 4 years. I hadn’t paid much attention. Instead, I brushed it off at the time, figuring it would eventually come back. But after 6 months of trying with no success, I wanted to figure out what was wrong with me. I began to research my symptoms and how I may have been contributing to my own infertility.

I self-diagnosed myself with HA, bought some books and read numerous blogs about the condition. I wised up and began eating well both for myself, my babies and to enjoy a quality life and future. In late December 2016, we began seeing a local fertility specialist/doctor and began treatments. I went through ____ cycles and was joyous when we became pregnant on ____________.

I believe in the HAES (Health At Every Size) movement and Body Positivity. I try to live a healthy, balanced life but also enjoy my favorite indulgences. I do my best to update this blog with happenings from my life as a new Mommy. I am just trying to figure this all out, with the help of my husband, family, friends and you. It’s an amazing journey navigating the path of how to care for, raise and be a positive influence on my children.

The reason I titled this blog “Mama’s Musings” is because I plainly, authentically, vulnerability and sometimes with my own quirky humor share the in’s and out’s of life as a female in this crazy beautiful world and as a mommy just trying to figure it all out while loving my children with all that I am.
